My entry for Wen-M's anima fanart contest - will fix the link when I find out how.
Anime isn't really my kind of thing, but I found this a fun contest, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Relevance to animarpg is the scythe, design by Wen-M.
DA isn't being helpful atm, will edit this description later on >_>
Pretty swell picture man.
The coloring is good but the composition of the picture is lacking though. The pose looks somewhat too stiff and the girl isn't sexy to my liking. (xD) Everything seems too distant from the viewer. I suggest you work on the waves (they look unfinished) and crop the left side of the picture. What would've been nice (in my opinion) would be to zoom up and "condense" your scene a bit more putting more emphasis on the girl by makin her take more space. The snake would be closer to her and the head would be big in the illustration. Ionno if you get this, basically I'm saying you should size it up.
Another suggestion would be to change the whole atmosphere of the piece and make it a dark stormy sky so the characters are more important and the lighting from the magic more dramatic.
I found the pose a bit stiff aswell. I've completely reworked it twice though, kinda had to take this one as I was approaching the deadline.. And I guess I need practice at sexy girls ^^.
I think I get what you're aiming for with the composition. I should have planned the whole piece a little better anyways. In this case, I just started with the main character and added the rest later on, ending with the water. Problem is that it's harder to fix your composition and stuff later in the process, because some parts are already finished then. I usually just throw myself in rather than to plan the whole thing. Light source got pretty inconsistent too.
Anyways, thanks alot for the in-depth crits, always useful!
I know its gay to rework major parts when most of them are finalized. I didn't know this was already submitted and he'd only let you show it when the contest was over. I totally forgot about that contest. xD
Btw theres this other one where you can win 500$ on PAYPAL (only) although the deadline is in two weeks the current entries aren't THAT good. If your interested I can link you.
Pretty cool, I'm going on vacation tomorrow though would have been interesting otherwise. Not that I'm going after money specifically, but I usually find it nice if what I'm working on serves some kind of purpose, like a contest or anything.
Thanks! I like how the water in the back turned out, but the water in the front was thrown in just before the deadline really. Not too happy with it. Good practice tho
